NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m all caught up! {sigh} At least there’s always tomorrow.
That explains the lack of hurry in the telling of the tale.
Why does it always have to be a bubble. Why can’t it be a square, or a triangle? Or maybe octahedron. ๐
domes are amongst the strongest structures in nature, and they’re also the easiest to build.
Or a pyramid. Pyramid power used to be quite the fad.
But Uhl is right. The sphere has the greatest ratio of strength to surface area of any possible defensive field.
And this is just what Oswald (leaving aside Clive’s laser beam) has for defense. His offense is the real killer… ๐
Now you all are just mixing physical truths to things that neither care for physics or all that much to truths either. ๐
Let there be decahedron-shaped forcefields. ๐
in fantasy/sci-fi there is often hexagon tiles based forcefields too
but yeah, the sphere is the most logical, easy to channel: “rise a shield all around, 5 feet from me” = if every point of the forcefield is same distance from center: sphere
Fantasy, my dear Velgar, is best when it reflects reality where it counts. ๐
Above all this reality: form follows function. A dodecahedral shield might be good for some things a shield wouldn’t be: for whatever a Platonic solid might bring to the fray on some mathematical or metaphysical level, for example. Anybody want to make a shield in the form of a geodesic dome or buckyball (same thing)? ๐
My own protagonist doesn’t always use spherical shields. He can shape a shield any way he has to (well, his Sentry can) in order to get the job done. But for simple protection, yes, a hemisphere or sphere only makes sense in anybody’s Realm.
> A dodecahedral shield might be good for some things a SPHERICAL shield wouldnโt be… ๐
Why not a Klein Bottle or Tesseract-shaped shield?
