How many willing to bet the real version of this part goes something like this:
“I was running for my dear life, when I noticed that people started to follow me. Not wanting to look like a yellow-belly fellow that I am, I started shouting at them and then they thought I was actually leading them. People are silly like that.”
Or better yet. “Not wanting to lose what could be my next meal, I herded these poor sheep out of immediate harm’s way.”
I don’t consider that version of the scenario, Velgar. But now that you mention it, it seems quite likely.
