Someone said something to the effect that most opportunities come well-disguised as trials. I think the Chinese language even reflects that concept.
Fear and shyness makes sense. Oswald IS a mouse, after all. Humans tend to react poorly to mice, and an authentic talking mouse would instill shock and horror if met in person.
Peeping on little girls…
Yeeeeaaah… Oswald has a lot to learn about humans…
Not to mention how women of all ages usually react to anything smaller than chihuahua…
“Smaller than a chihuahua”, huh? I know women who love hamsters, guinea pigs, laboratory rats and mice (one I knew had a rare blue crayfish in an aquarium)… of course, none of those critters talked! But then, there was this talking serpent and the woman he talked to didn’t react in fright either; too bad…
But Oswald is right. All else being equal, a child, especially one of a fantasy-oriented temperament, can suspend disbelief much more easily than an adult. He has his best chances to bridge the human-mouse abyss with a child, especially a girl.
Oh! I remember this on your aduio book. shame what happens
