Makes you wonder if Disney would have been as successful if he saved the name “Oswald” for his mouse character rather than use it for his earlier bunny character that he lost the rights to.
Wouldn’t it have been fun to call him Martin? Last story-arc would have especially been interesting…

Moxie, I think that someone else owned “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit”, and Walt was just a contract animator for the character.

@ miscreant mutt: Close. Disney and animator Ub Iwerks created Oswald, but studio owner Charles Mintz took the character — and most of the other animators — away during a contract dispute.
Well, if that bad Oswald was who I think he was, that was his last name anyway.
