What are the films that influenced you as a creator while you were growing up?

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these and I have to get back to doing them weekly. First I would like to thank everyone who’s been supporting The Oswald Chronicles by voting for him on topwebcomics.com, and please keep doing so and if you’re not please start, we need your help :)

Before I begin I would like to let everyone know that I will be starting up a Kickstarter campaign soon to bring the very first Oswald trade paperback into the real world :) So please keep an eye out for it and here are a few Kickstarters I’m supporting so go check them out and see if you would like to chip in and get a book :)

Recently I sat down and watched The Good the Bad and the Ugly for the first time from end to end without interruption. I had seen bits and pieces of this film as I grew up, my father would watch it whenever it was on and I never understood why, until I watched it and the film was incredible, the cinematography was grand and the way the film was framed, both in plot and images was awesome. And it made me wonder if I had watched this film in its totality when I was young how it would have affected me creatively. This line of thinking made me consider what are the films that influenced me the most growing up, so my question to all of you what are the films that influenced you creatively as a child? Keep the lists to actual movies, no animation or anime, the only reason I’m asking this is because I would like to make that a whole separate list.

I know a bunch of these movies are a bit on the cheesy side by today’s standards but I was a kid, very young and impressionable. These movies were awesome anyway and got my creative mind to go to places I had never been to before. So please have no shame and let us know what were the films from your youth that set your mind on fire?

I haven’t seen all the films that a lot of people have, but here is a list more or less in terms of number of viewings, topmost first:

2. Superman (the original w/Christopher Reese)
3. The Wizard of Oz
4. The Ten Commandments
5. Ben Hur
6. The Sound of Music
7. The Hunt for Red October
8. Star Trek (the whole canon, possibly more often in ensemble than the rest put together)
9. Silent Running
10. Soylent Green
